Why Claude over ChatGPT:
- Long-context window (200K tokens vs ChatGPT 128K) = upload entire books, contracts, long codebases
- Lower hallucination rate in factual queries (Anthropic Constitutional AI training)
- Writing voice less formulaic (“certainly, here are the points” syndrome of GPT)
- Better at nuanced reasoning and refusing to make stuff up
Strengths: long-form writing (essays, reports), code refactoring across large files, document summarization, ambiguous instruction interpretation. Coding capability matches GPT-4o for most tasks.
Weaknesses: no native image generation (use Midjourney or DALL-E 3 via ChatGPT for that), web browsing exists but slower than ChatGPT, plugin/GPT ecosystem more limited.
Pro vs Free: free gets 25-50 messages per 5 hours and Claude 3.5 Sonnet only. Pro ($20/month) unlocks Claude 4.5 Opus 4.7 (smartest model), 5x usage limits, priority access during peak, Projects (multi-conversation knowledge bases).
vs ChatGPT Plus ($20/month): comparable price. Pick Claude for writing + reasoning + code review. Pick ChatGPT for image gen + plugins + GPTs marketplace. Many power users subscribe to both.
Privacy: Anthropic stated policy: no training on user data without opt-in (Free + Pro). Better posture than OpenAI in late 2024.
